What the Driver App Shows on Every Roll-Off Job

Dispatch is only as good as what reaches the cab. A perfect board in the office means nothing if the driver is working off a screenshot of a text from last night, or calling in after every stop to ask what is next.

Two-way texting, from Two-Way Texting in Roll-Off Dispatch: Placement Photos, Gate Codes and Pickup Calls, keeps the office and the customer talking. The driver app keeps the office and the driver on the same page.

Jobs in Route Order

When you assign a job to a driver and truck, it shows up in that driver's app in route order. The driver sees the whole day: first job, second job, and so on. When dispatch moves a job up, adds a same-day request or reassigns something to another truck, the list updates.

That alone cuts a lot of radio and phone traffic. The driver does not need to call in to find out what is next. It is right there.

Drivers also see what the rest of the day looks like, which helps them make good small decisions on their own: taking a few minutes longer at one site because they know the next job is nearby, or skipping a coffee stop because there is a landfill run with a closing time coming up.

Site and Haul-To With One-Tap Navigation

Every job shows both addresses: the customer site and the haul-to address for the landfill or transfer station. Each one has one-tap navigation. Finish the pull, tap the haul-to, drive.

New drivers benefit the most. They may not know which disposal site takes which material, or the fastest way to a job site at the edge of the service area. The app answers both.

For experienced drivers, the haul-to address is less about navigation and more about certainty. They know where the landfill is. What they need to know is that dispatch chose that site for that load, so they are not second-guessing a decision made in the office.

Dumpster Details

Each job shows the dumpster size in yards, the unit number and the debris type. The driver knows whether to load a 15 or a 30 before leaving the yard, and knows what to expect when pulling the full can.

For swaps, the driver can confirm the unit being pulled and the unit being set. That keeps the job record accurate for the next visit.

When something does not match — the can on site has a different unit number, or the size is not what the job says — the driver should note it and let the office know. Keeping the job accurate makes the next swap or pickup at that site go smoothly.

Placement and Access Notes

Placement and access notes show on the job: where the can goes, gate codes, overhead hazards, soft ground, times when the site is open. Drivers read them on the way instead of discovering the problem on arrival.

Photos from earlier visits or from the customer help even more. Drivers can take their own photos in the app too, which attach to the job for the office and the next driver to see.

Encourage drivers to add notes when they learn something the next driver should know: a new gate code, a soft spot by the drive, a foreman who prefers a text. Their notes become part of the site's history, which makes every future visit easier.

Start, Complete and Customer Texts

The driver taps start when beginning a job and complete when done. The office sees the board change without a phone call. One-tap on-the-way and arrival texts go to the customer, and the customer can watch the driver on a live map in the customer app.

On pickups and swaps, the driver enters the scale-ticket weight in tons on the job after the dump. Tons over the included weight are billed per ton on the invoice, so the weight entry is not optional.

Completing jobs promptly matters for the office too. A job marked complete as soon as the work is done means the board reflects reality, the invoice can go out and the next decision about that truck is made with good information.

What This Means for Dispatch

When the driver app has everything, dispatch becomes a planning job instead of a relay job. You stop reading addresses over the phone and start making decisions about the next request on the map.

It also makes it easier to bring on a new driver. Instead of spending weeks learning which landfill takes what and where every regular customer wants their can, a new driver can rely on the app for those details and focus on safe, careful driving and placement.

Next in the series is dispatching for contractor accounts with multiple job sites. To see the driver app alongside the rest of dispatch, visit the DumpsterBossPro roll-off dispatch software page.
