Customers With Multiple Job Sites: Keeping Pickups and Swaps Straight
"Can you swap the dumpster?" is a simple request from a homeowner. From a contractor with four active sites, it is a question. Which one? The 20-yard at the townhouses, the 30-yard at the strip mall, or the two 15-yards at the house on the hill? Mixing them up sends a truck to the wrong place with the wrong empty.
One Customer, Many Sites
In DumpsterBossPro, a customer can have multiple job sites. Each site has its own address, and each job is tied to the site where the can actually sits. The customer is the same; the site is what the driver navigates to.
Contractors, property managers and developers are the most common multi-site customers, and they are often the contractors covered in Contractor Dumpster Swaps: Keeping Busy Job Sites From Overflowing who need regular swaps.
Identify the Site on Every Request
The first question on any request from a multi-site customer is "which site?" Ask for the address or the project name, and confirm the size and unit number. "The 30-yard at the strip mall on Route 9, unit 14?" removes all doubt.
Requests that come in through the customer app or a web request form should be checked the same way. If the site is not clear, a quick two-way text asks before the request goes on the Waiting List.
Notes Belong to the Site
Every site has its own access quirks: a gate code at one, a loading dock schedule at another, a steep driveway at a third. Keep placement and access notes with the job at that site, so the driver sees the right notes for the right place.
Include an on-site contact for each. The person who calls in the swap is often in the office, not on site, and the driver needs someone to find when the gate is locked.
When a site wraps up, close it out cleanly: final pickup done, notes updated, nothing left open. A site that is finished but still shows open jobs confuses the next person who takes a call from that customer, and can lead to a driver being sent to an empty lot.
Scheduling Across Sites
Multi-site customers often want several things on the same day: a swap here, a pickup there, a relocate at a third site as one phase wraps up. On the Waiting List map, those requests show up at their actual addresses, so you can see whether they fit on one truck or should be split.
Do not assume they belong together just because they are one customer. A contractor's sites may be on opposite sides of your area. Group by geography, assign to a driver and roll-off truck, and let auto-routing order the stops.
There is one case where one customer's jobs do belong together: a relocate between two of their sites. If a contractor finishes at one site and wants the can moved to the next, that is a site-to-site move with no dump in between, and it fits best on a truck already working that part of town. Make sure the new site is set on the job so the next pickup goes to the right address.
Watch the rentals across all of a customer's sites, too. A contractor with five cans out may have one that has been sitting past its included days on a stalled project. A quick text asking if it can come back frees up a can and saves them extra-day charges.
Billing One Customer for Many Sites
For contractor and commercial accounts, monthly billing on one invoice gathers every site's jobs into one bill: swaps, pickups, relocates, extra rental days and overweight tons. Each line shows which site it belongs to, so the customer can split costs across their projects.
Contractors appreciate that. Many have to bill their own clients for disposal, and an invoice broken down by site makes their job easier, which makes them more likely to keep using you.
Avoiding the Classic Mistakes
The mistakes are predictable: the wrong can pulled, the empty dropped at the wrong site, the gate code from one site used at another, the extra days billed against the wrong project. All of them come from treating the customer as one place instead of many.
Keep sites separate, confirm the site on every request, and keep notes with the site. To see how customers with multiple job sites fit with the Waiting List, dispatch board and billing, visit DumpsterBossPro dumpster pickup and swap scheduling software.
